Still Life 'Interrupted'
Original 594mm x 310mm Pencil Drawing
‘I was asked to produce an artwork under the banner of ‘Still Life’. I wasn’t keen on the idea and I couldn’t get the ‘bowl of fruit’ image out of my head. I had thought of not doing the piece because I knew I wouldn’t enjoy the process.
Then came the breakthrough, a twist on tradition that might appeal to more viewers!
I decided on a glass of water with dandelion leaves in, an old teddy bear and a living rabbit eating the leaves. This would be on a wooden shelf against a wall showing part of a framed print (you may know).
In the end I drew a wooden table, slightly off the wall, because a shelf would have been too narrow for the rabbit.
In a way my drawing is a still life, most of it is inanimate and the rabbit is slowly interrupting the scene to eat, When he’s finished he will go - leaving a ‘still life’ once again.’
