Going, Going, Gone. (Polar Bear Triptych)
Three separate original pencil drawings 330mm x 330mm each
‘I wanted to portray change over three pieces of artwork and so I chose Polar Bears to highlight an important message.
The concept is simple, a baby polar bear explores his ‘den’ but he knows! As he grows, his ‘den’ is melting and now, even more, he knows!! Over time his once home (his ‘den’) has almost gone - confirming what he knew!!
Climate change is harming Polar Bears because the sea ice is melting too quickly. This lessens the opportunity for them to hunt their main food source, seals. As a result, polar bears have less chance to build up the body weight they need to enable hibernation.
Global-warming is a problem that won’t go away unless we ALL do our best to try to reverse climate change.
My drawings show the same polar bear, and his ‘den’ in the snow as it slowly melts to almost nothing.
I must add: as far as I know, no polar bears were harmed during the creation of my three drawings.’
